New Year, new goals

As we step into a new year, it beckons the perfect opportunity to set fresh goals. However, big expectations can sometimes lead to setting unattainable targets. To overcome this challenge, consider breaking down your goals into manageable chunks, fostering a path to more achievable successes. Here are some practical ideas to inspire your goals and effective strategies to tackle them:

1. Save money regularly - Saving money may seem daunting, but starting with small, regular contributions can make the concept less intimidating. Sheffield Mutual offers options to save from as little as £5 per month through our Regular Savings Plan or Tax Exempt Savings Plan. You can save for between 10 to 25 years, and watch your savings pot grow! Click here for more information on our regular savings options. Capital at risk.

2. Pick up a new hobby – Introducing a new hobby adds variety to your life and provides an enjoyable way to self-discovery. Alternatively, revisit an old hobby; you might rediscover your passion. Whether it's painting, sewing, gardening, or gaming; the options are endless.

3. Drink more water – Prioritise self-care by setting a goal to consume more water; it does wonders for your body, keeping you hydrated and helping everything to work properly. So why not make it a goal to sip on more water throughout the day? Get yourself a new water bottle and keep hydrated in 2024! We’re giving away two Sheffield Mutual water bottles on our Facebook page. Competition closes 28th January 2024. Terms and conditions apply.

4. Make a new friend - Embrace new connections by being open to friendships. Taking the time to chat with people, joining group activities, and putting yourself out there can be a great start to expanding your social circle.

5. Be more sustainable – Incorporate small changes into your daily routine, such as recycling, using reusable bags, or turning off unnecessary lights. Mindful choices, like reducing single-use plastics or conserving water, contribute to creating a greener and healthier world.

6. Learn something new – Whether it’s picking up a musical instrument, trying your hand at a new language, or exploring a fresh skill, the act of learning keeps our minds vibrant and engaged.

7. Read more – Instead of scrolling through social media in your free time, opt for a good book. It's a constructive way to pass the time and disconnect from the digital world.

8. Cook at home regularly – Save money, hone your culinary skills, and make healthier choices by cooking at home regularly. Even simple recipes can turn into delicious and satisfying meals, providing a sense of accomplishment.

9. Dry January – Consider starting the year by reducing or eliminating alcohol consumption. It's a great way to ease into healthier habits for 2024, with plenty of tasty alcohol-free alternatives to explore.

10. Spend more time outside – Embrace the outdoors, whether it's a leisurely stroll in the park, a hike in the woods, or simply soaking up the sunshine in your garden. Spending time outdoors has numerous benefits for both your physical and mental wellbeing.
