Covid-19 update - A message from our CEO, Jamie Bellamy

As the current global situation surrounding Covid-19 continues, we wanted to provide our members with an update. 

We are in unprecedented territory, but I would like to reassure you that we are committed to maintaining our service standards to you, where possible. 

We appreciate that there may be some concern regarding the current financial climate, but we wanted to outline the approach we have taken to protect our members during these uncertain times: 

  • We are monitoring the various national and global markets daily
  • We invest for the long-term and haven't made any knee jerk reactions to falls in the markets as experience and history suggests that stock markets will recover and stabilise
  • We will continue to follow the advice of our Actuary and Investment Managers 

Safeguarding our employees 

One of our main priorities is the wellbeing of our employees, so in line with government guidance at the time, we took quite an early decision for the majority of our team to work remotely from home.  We were then able to implement our business continuity strategy prior to the enforced lockdown, which has enabled our team to continue to provide a first-rate service for our members.

Since mid-March most of the team successfully moved to remote working to ensure the Society remains fully operational. Steps are now being taken to start bringing employees back into the office in line with government guidelines and ensuring that any employees that are at a higher risk can continue to work safely from home. 

As well as our employees working from home, we have employees who will now be in the office on a day-to-day basis. These employees (who are taking all necessary measures in terms of social distancing) are there to help us maintain our normal service standards and deal with incoming and outgoing post. 

It’s business as (almost) usual 

Whilst we still aim to maintain our excellent service levels, our usual telephone and postal service levels may be impacted to some degree. We aim to minimise this where possible but would appreciate our members contacting us via email in the first instance (enquiries@sheffieldmutual.com) if you can.
