The Children’s Hospital Charity are chosen as our charity of the year

We are delighted to announce that The Children’s Hospital Charity have been selected to be Sheffield Mutual’s employees' chosen charity of the year for 2022.

The Children’s Hospital Charity is dedicated to raising money to build a better future for children who visit the Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

The charity fundraises to help provide better equipment, opening new facilities and funding vital research to change lives.

Laura Staniland, Lead Marketing and Communications Specialist said:

“It has been a difficult time for charities over the past two years who rely heavily on donations and fundraising events. That is why we’re delighted to have The Children’s Hospital Charity as our charity of the year.”

The Children’s Hospital Charity will use the donation of £2,500 to go towards part of a project at the Becton Centre for Children and Young People. The centre is where the team run their Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAHMS) from. The donation will be used to improve the dining room at the Becton centre.

A huge thank you to Sheffield Mutual for your generous donation, it will make such a difference! We will use the monies to do work through our Artfelt team to improve our dining room at Becton (CAHMS). We had hoped to make the space amazing and joyful space to help the children who going through incredibly difficult times but didn’t think we could fund it to the level we would like and then this came in at the perfect time! Thank you so much again.”

Artfelt Officer, Jade Richardson said:

“Our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) treats children and young people with a range of difficulties that are seriously impacting on their mental health and emotional wellbeing and is based at the Children’s Hospital’s Becton site near Crystal Peaks. Though we have a state-of-the-art service the buildings we have are now old and tired.

The dining room needs improvement, it lacks privacy due to the position of the windows so children either don't have the necessary security of privacy or they have no natural light as the blinds need to be closed. The charity through its Artfelt team would like to add a lovely window and wall mural so that the historical institutional blinds can be removed as well as adding more attractive and brighter lighting. We know that at the moment many children do not want to use this space, but we have secured funding, we have involved them in the process of looking at the options to empower them, so they feel like they have more ownership.

For the younger children we will make them feel more comfortable by purchasing smaller furniture, so they feel considered and less like they are in an older child’s space, reducing the potential for anxiety. We always want to provide the best we can and the funding will allow us to do this.”
