Community Fund Donation
Following a request for a donation from our Communty Fund, I'm pleased to say that the Committee of Management agreed a £500 donation to Rotherham Sight & Sound towards the purchase of a minibus.
Rotherham Sight & Sound is a division of Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB) and is a new sensory service delivering services to people with a visual impairment, deaf people, both hearing aid users and British Sign Language (BSL) users, as well as people with a dual sensory loss (deafblind) in Rotherham. It is a combined service for adults and their carers’ in Rotherham, providing facilities to network and participate in a range of activities designed to develop communications skills and provide ongoing support.
Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB)
Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB) provides opportunity, support, friendship and services to blind and partially sighted people in Sheffield, helping them to achieve whatever they wish to do and whatever they aspire to be. Their centre and Head Office on Mappin Street, Sheffield is a busy hub for the support and services they offer visually impaired clients in Sheffield and they also run a residential care home in Crosspool, Sheffield.
Both SRSB and Rotherham Sight & Sound have a wide range of services to meet the needs of children and adults of all ages. Their services improve their clients’ quality of life and are a lifeline to many people.
SRSB has minibuses in operation in Sheffield (pictured). However, the new service in Rotherham does not currently have one dedicated to their centre, so they are currently fundraising for this. One of the major issues faced by many people with sight loss is isolation, so having a minibus will allow people to socialise with others and in doing so will reduce this level of isolation.
There are in excess of 2,000 registered blind and partially sighted people in Rotherham who could benefit from the minibus.
