Sheffield Mutual sponsors Steeldogs clash
Posted on January 11, 2019
Sheffield Mutual were delighted to be invited to IceSheffield on Friday 21 December as match sponsor for the Sheffield Steeldogs ice hockey game against Hull Pirates.
The Sheffield Steeldogs are a semi-professional ice hockey team founded in 2010 and are based at iceSheffield. The Steeldogs currently ply their trade in the National Ice Hockey League North, the Moralee Conference.
The Steeldogs were up against their fierce rivals and the strong start they had hoped for became a reality when Cam Brownley scored the opener before 2 minutes was on the clock. This set the tone and from here the Steeldogs looked dominant. Whilst on a power play Speirs added to the Steeldogs tally. The Hull Pirates were rewarded on 17:45 when Chamberlain scored and the teams went in at 2-1 for their deserved break.
In the second period it was sheer end to end excitement. Hull had a chance saved by Zimozdra in the Steeldogs net before the Dogs broke and had their own opportunity on Day in the Pirates net and this pattern continued. A talking point on 24:56 when Hull’s Lee Bonner (brother of Andrew Bonner, Business Development Officer) ran Zimozdra and left the Sheffield net minder sprawling on the ice, the Pirate was dispatched to the bin for interference. However, Bonner was on hand 10 minutes later to see the puck slide under Zimozdra and even up the score. End of the second period, 2-2.
It was all level into the final period and with vital points up for grabs, the Steeldogs began with some early pressure but Hull were up for the challenge. Cam Brownley capped his Man of the Match performance off with his second of the night to send the Sheffield crowd wild! Adrian Palak setting him up to fire an absolute rocket past the Hull net minder.
Sheffield Mutual Chief Executive Officer, Jamie Bellamy said: "The Society is delighted to be supporting the Steeldogs in the 2018/19 season. The Society is the match night puck sponsor for all Steeldogs home games, as well as sponsoring talented prospect, Aaron Jepson, and the staff really enjoyed the game against the Hull Pirates, being the first ice hockey game some have attended.
In line with our history, heritage and ethical values, Sheffield Mutual is committed to helping good causes and sponsoring local teams to benefit the wider community.”
