Junior ISA (JISA)
Sheffield Mutual’s new stocks
& shares JISA is a simple and straightforward way to invest in
order to
give your child a good financial start in life. The JISA is a tax-exempt
product, which means that no tax is payable on the income or capital gains
generated by the investments and received by the child on maturity.
Your child’s funds would be held in a with-profits insurance policy, which is designed for longer-term investments of this kind. Although the amount returned on the maturity of a stocks and shares JISA is not guaranteed, for peace of mind Sheffield Mutual guarantees that premiums invested for more than five years will be returned as a minimum on your child’s 18th birthday.
You can invest from as little
as £10 per month with Sheffield Mutual or a minimum single premium of £100, up
to £300 per month or £3,600 single premium in each tax year (6 April to 5
April). You can top-up the single premiums as and when you like (minimum £50)
providing you don’t exceed the maximum permitted contribution of £3,600 per tax
year. Subscriptions can be made by anyone, including the child’s parents,
grandparents, friends or other family members – ideal for investing birthday
money!
The JISA is available to all
UK resident children under the age of 18, who do not have a Child Trust Fund
(CTF). This means that all children born on or after 3 January 2011 are
eligible, together with children born before 1 September 2002.
The JISA matures on the
child’s 18th birthday, when the funds can be withdrawn by the child
or simply rolled over in to an adult ISA in the child’s name.
If you would prefer a plan with a guaranteed return, where you can also choose the term of years, you may be interested in our Tax Exempt Savings Plan. This is another tax exempt product unique to friendly societies, which can be held in addition or as an alternative to the JISA.
